What to Expect

What to Expect

A back treatment in progress

What should you expect at your first visit?

During the initial consultation we will discuss your case history: the symptoms, the onset of the problem and other questions relating to your medical background. After examination, the type and number of treatments required will be ascertained and you will be given an idea of the time-frame in which we should see improvements or a resolution to your symptoms.

How will you treat me?

Your first session of osteopathic treatment will be fairly gentle as everyone responds differently. I use massage, articulation, use of muscles against resistance and sometimes manipulation, in which the bones are separated, resulting in a cracking noise. The sound comes from gas bubbles within the joint fluid moving into the space created. It is the same principle as cracking your knuckles and doesn't hurt any more than that.

When Am I Discharged?

That's up to you. Some patients prefer regular, preventative osteopathic treatment, while others seek treatment after a painful episode, and call back if further problems arise.

About my treatment

• I treat patients from children to late age
• I will always keep you well informed about your progress at every stage
• Please wear loose clothing to aid treatment (it is difficult to assess the hip if you wear tight jeans)
• All information given to your practitioner is confidential
• You are in complete control throughout your osteopathic treatments. I have many methods of reaching the desired outcome, so if you don't want me to use a particular type of technique, I will use another to suit your preference.
